Talking about negative issues with technology, this is an interesting thought.  Are we trying to fight the idea of being lonely by connecting via social technology and does it in the end feed our fear of being lonely.  Take a look at the video and give me your thoughts.

  1. I personally do not think that using technology is a replacement for face to face communication. I agree that technology and social media are being abused and not necessarily being used correctly. Making those face to face communication mistakes is part of living life and learning! More people online feel pressured to communicate and make up those stories and that's upsetting to me! I want to have real experiences and not use Photoshop to place myself in Russia when i have never been there, to me that doesn't make sense it encourages more lies. It is frustrating which is why I personally do not spend inordinate amount of time on social platforms instead I prefer to go out and explore even if its "alone" running or going to a school event, there are others there who also go "alone" and you can connect and sit with them! I think it is counter productive. I think technology should be used for education, information, job connections, and meeting others but then once those connections are made its time for real world action. To use the information from the internet and apply it to the circumstances.

  2. Technology can open up the possibilities to reaching across to other countries or other areas that we might not travel to so I can understand how it has expanded out reach but I agree that the lack of face to face can take away from the building process.

  3. I wrote a comment and because it was impromptu cannot repeat the exact wording. For some reason the comment was lost when I clicked Published!!! So frustrating. Basically what the comment said is people can become so engaged they risk the possibility of losing their own identity by attempting to be the person their online counterparts expects. Also, this may explain why our children are drawn to sexual offenders or into malicious activities through social media and technology.
